How Fit Crawl Started
The Annual Fit Crawl 2 Fight Breast Cancer was inspired by Men Wear Pink ambassador Rashed Fakhruddin, an Engineering Supervisor at Nashville Electric Service (NES). This month long event kicked off in 2020 as an opportunity to help build a community around survivors support through the fitness studios, as well as an opportunity to try to stay healthy (both physically & emotionally) via exercise as higher levels of physical activity are linked to lower risk of cancer and other diseases while also being linked to healing. This event allows a chance for people to try out different exercises and find one that fits their needs, if they have not already done so.
Through this month long crawl to over 50 fitness & wellness studios, we help raise awareness and funds in the fight against breast cancer through the American Cancer Society via their intensive cancer research, patient support as well as education and awareness (over a quarter million women are diagnosed with breast cancer and over 40 thousand die from it in the U.S., while 1 in 8 women are expected to develop breast cancer in their lifetime!) Thanks to more awareness and donations towards cancer research, the death rate has gone down 42% over the last 2 decades!
Please remind loved ones to do monthly self exams and get mammograms. By the age of 40 need to get mammograms and 45-54 don’t miss a year. If you have family history get checked out early.
Workouts are of varying styles including yoga, cycling, Pilates, boxing, barre, HIIT, strength conditioning, cardio, ballet, etc. Follow us on @fitcrawl2fightbreastcancer, @menwearpinknashville & @nashvillefit for more information.
